Labradoodles are cheerful, social, and welcoming to people and other dogs. They are very cooperative, curious, and confident in new surroundings. Thanks to their gentle temperament, many say the Labradoodle makes a good family dog. The Labradoodle needs plenty of exercise and stimulation to thrive, and they love water. Social interaction is also very important for this breed.

Labradoodle coat care

The Labradoodle doesn't shed much, which is why they're often considered suitable for people with allergies. However, it's not always accurate to say that Labradoodles are completely allergy-friendly. Many allergy sufferers can live happily with a Labradoodle, but it's not true for everyone. If you're thinking of getting a Labradoodle, it's a good idea to spend time with one first to see if you have any allergic reactions.

Labradoodle coats can vary, from woolly to fleece-like. The coat should be soft and can be straight, wavy, or have medium curls. Labradoodle coats need a fair amount of care; you should brush through the coat once a week. From puppyhood up to about 18 months, you'll need to comb through the coat 3-4 times a week. The coat needs to be clipped around 4-6 times a year, depending on your preferred length.

Nail clipping

Of course, your dog's nails need attention! Clip them as needed, but we recommend not waiting too long – perhaps once a month is sufficient. It's better to clip a little and often than a lot and rarely. You'll need to get your dog used to having its nails clipped from an early age. In our nail clipping course, we'll share our best tips on how to do it!

Weight management

Be mindful of how much food you give your Labradoodle, as they are prone to obesity. As a Labradoodle owner, you need to help your dog maintain a healthy weight. You can do this partly by learning about weight management in our app course, and also by understanding how to assess your dog's body condition, which you can also learn about in our app..

Lameness

A common issue is that Labradoodles can suffer from lameness. You can learn more about the different types of lameness and what to do if your dog is lame in our course.

Skin conditions
