Deductible is the part of the cost that you have to pay yourself at each veterinary visit. Lassie offers different options for fixed and variable excess and the excess you have chosen is shown in your policy. The remaining amount is the compensation that we at Lassie pay out.

You choose a fixed and a variable deductible. If the cost of the visit exceeds your fixed deductible amount, you also pay a percentage of the amount that remains, a variable deductible.

Example of a deductible for dog insurance:

• Let's say your vet visit costs 12 000 SEK. You have a fixed deductible of 1 900 SEK and a variable deductible of 15%.

• You pay: 1 900 SEK (fixed excess) + 1 515 SEK (variable excess calculated on 10 100 SEK (12 000 kr - 1 900 SEK)) = 3 415 SEK

• Lassie reimburses the remaining amount: 8 585 SEK

With a high deductible, Lassie pays out a smaller amount for each claim, which means you get a lower insurance price with us. With a low deductible, Lassie pays out a larger sum for each claim, which means you get a higher insurance price with us. Choose the deductible that you think suits you and your situation.

We have a deductible period of 365 days. You pay the fixed deductible only once per insurance year, regardless of the number of visits to the vet. However, you pay the variable deductible at each veterinary visit.

Yes, we cover hidden defects if your Swedish-born puppy or kitten has been examined by a vet in Sweden who issued a Swedish vet certificate without comment, was insured before 120 days of age and continues to be insured without interruption after that. If your pet has not been examined by a veterinarian before 120 days of age, a waiting period of 12 months applies from the date the insurance started.

A hidden defect means that a disease or defect has begun to develop before examination by a veterinarian but is not detected during a veterinary inspection.

Lassie pet insurance has a waiting period of 14 days, which means that the insurance does not cover illnesses in your animal that have shown up within 14 days of the pet insurance being started.

The waiting period does not apply in the event of an accident.

For a puppy or kitten that is insured before it is 120 days old, the pet insurance applies immediately (without a waiting period of 14 days) if there is a veterinary certificate without remarks. The veterinary certificate may not be more than ten days old.

If you switch to Lassie pet insurance directly from another Swedish pet insurance, the insurance applies immediately without a waiting period, provided that the scope of the pet insurance is the same. If, on the other hand, you switch to a higher cover with us, there will be a waiting period, but only on the increase.

For caesareans, a waiting period of 60 days applies at Lassie.

The insurance price will increase slightly with age because the risk is affected by the age of the dog or cat. However, it is not possible to say exactly how much it increases. We also need to take into account general price increases, for example increased veterinary care costs.

But with that said, we work hard not to make any big price changes. We promise to let you know in advance about any price increases.

In the context of pet insurance, accident refers to a sudden external event that affects the animal physically. An accident is also equated with the animal having swallowed a foreign object or having been acutely poisoned by poison supplied from the outside.

If your dog or cat has an accident, this means, for example, if your dog swallows a foreign object or if your cat falls from a tree. Illness that occurs during the waiting period is not counted as an accident.
